I remember vividly the first day I laid my hands on a camera. Seems like it was yesterday but in reality it was 1981. All of the right elements came together that afternoon: a lazy fall day, a new Minolta, the deep woods of the Naugatuck valley, a neighborhood schoolgirl and a dozen images of her and I was forever hooked on photography. At first the images incorporated a lot of landscape but I quickly moved in and focus on the soul in the unblinking hemisphere of my light box.
I’m a rather eclectic photographer and as a result my work is far beyond those melancholy pictures produced by our nation’s giant retailers. All of us have seen enough portraits with the same phony smiles, blank stares and timed honored poses. I disdain mediocre photographic work and that is why my shooting style is over-the-top.
